Situated by Amsterdam Centraal Station, the Doubletree by Hilton boasts riverside views, lavish suites and an exclusive Sky Lounge with an outdoor terrace, which I personally believe has the ultimate panoramic view of the city in all its glory.
This is the second time that I've been a guest at this hotel and I'm convinced that this most certainly won't be my last either. On arrival you are welcomed by the friendly Doubletree staff at reception who manage to check you in ever so swiftly and even spoil you to a cheeky warm double chocolate cookie before you head up to your room. It's the perfect little touch after coping with the hustle and bustle of travelling.
Last year I stayed in a twin room and let's just say that this time round we had our eyes on the upgrade. After going back and forth we finally settled on the King City Suite and what a fantastic decision that was. Taking our first steps into our home for the next few days our eyes literally lit up as we were blown away by the harbour view, a bathtub that we could all comfortably fit in at the same time, an Apple Mac & TV ideal for entertainment while we nurse our hangovers. Oh and how can I possibly forget the velvety slippers and bathrobes that we literally managed to strut around in day after day.
As a guest in a suite you are given executive benefits, one of which is being able to access the executive lounge on the ground floor. The lounge allows premium guests to indulge in complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day, as well as a free bar and canapes between 6 and 8pm. Ideal for networking with other travellers and people on business, the lounge is the perfect getaway to unwind over a cup of tea, or a sweet glass of wine.
On the topic of refreshments and food, breakfast is known for being the best meal of the day, but personally I'm more of a lunch girl myself, but I must say the Doubletree breakfast may have possibly converted me. Served bright and early at 6.30am, there is no better way to vanish the effects of the previous night with a delicious meal. Stepping into the breakfast area, I honestly didn't know which direction to look in. The options were endless! You could have a traditional English breakfast or even an oriental breakfast, a huge selection of Cereals, Fruit, Crepes, Waffles, Cheese and a crazy selection of smoothies, teas and fresh juices to quench your thirst. No matter what your dietary requirements, the kitchen staff will go above and beyond to ensure that your needs are met.
The whole point of me and my friends flying to Amsterdam was to get away from the usual London/Essex NYE scene. I am proud to say that we didn't even have to leave our hotel to enjoy the night. It was buzzing, people were absolutely everywhere, DJ's were set up playing the best house tunes and half of the hotel ran outside to experience the fireworks by the harbour during countdown. This trip will easily go down as my best NYE to date and that wouldn't have been made possible if we stayed elsewhere.
