Ladies That Dine! The Ubiquitous Chip

Down the cobbled path of Glasgow’s Ashton Lane lies ‘The Ubiquitous Chip’, an iconic restaurant that undoubtedly lives up to the hype that its created for itself. I can admit that I’m a bit of a sucker when it comes to reading reviews, but sometimes this habit can either leave me with high expectations that either get absolutely obliterated, or in other cases pleasantly surprised. In this case, my expectations were high and I wasn’t disappointed at all.

The Ubiquitous Chip also nicknamed ‘The Chip’ offers three completely different dining experiences within its four walls. If you’re hoping to just enjoy a simple drink or two, or more you can head over to the bar and mingle with the locals or your friends if you prefer. For those of you who are after a more relaxed dining experience you can dine in the Brasserie and if you want to go all out and fancy something slightly snazzier, the restaurant is the spot for you.

As always, we walked in with no reservation and hoped we could use our good old English charm to get a seat…result! Whilst enjoying a pint of beer and a glass of wine at the bar area, it was less than 30 minutes before the staff had us seated in this stunning restaurant. Looking back, no picture that I had seen prior to my visit did this restaurant justice, it was simply beautiful. Imagine dining in a courtyard or botanical garden, surrounded by draping greenery, ponds, and fountains. It was truly stunning!

After a long day of exploring Glasgow’s museums, its fair to say we had worked up an appetite. Browsing through the a la carte menu, I was stuck for choice (as always). Everything just sounded delicious. After minutes of all the ooo’s, ahh’s and questioning our lovely Essex born waitress about her recommendations we settled on ordering the Barra scallops with carrot and sesame consommé with pickled grapes, Lobster, Red Deer Haunch with salt baked celeriac, game Bolognese and red cabbage puree and Shetland cod fillet with pink fir potatoes, soubise sauce, charred onion and chicken jus. The meal exceeded any expectation that I could have possibly created in my head.

If you’re ever in Glasgow, I would highly recommend visiting ‘The Chip’. Even if its just for a drink!
